Receipt of NOA-2 (Second Notice of Action)

Receiving your NOA2 will be your first real milestone! The second notice of action is the actual approval of your petition and can be expected approximately 60 - 75 days after you have submitted your I-129F packet.  Please refer to the USCIS website for tracking.

This is an example of your NOA-2:

Important NOA-2 Notes

Please note the reference numbers on the NOA-2 example above.

  1. NOA-2 Receipt number.

  2. This is the petitioner's name and address for mailing purposes.

  3. Petitioner's full name.

  4. This is the "A" number (alien registration number) and is very important that you note this as it will be used on many documents going forward.

  5. Beneficiary's full name.

  6. This indicates the validity of the approval of your petition. The example dates were from July 6th to November 5, 2013. This means you'll have until November 5th to process the remainder of your K-1 visa application there in the Philippines. Ideally, this period of four months provides the beneficiary enough time to finish the whole process. But if in case you fail to do so due to unforeseen circumstances, the consular officer (CO) will review your case and extend it as he or she sees fit. You may never need to have your petition extended, but it is there if you need it.

Email Notification of the NOA-2

Recently USCIS has been notifying visa applicants via e-notification of "approval" of the NOA2. We haven't ascertained if this is something that will be ongoing, which we hope that it is as it will speed up the process and those who are waiting will sooner than later. Here is an example of that letter:
