Completing the DS-160 for Your Interview

Read over the DS-160 instructions before beginning the application.  Pay attention to the Digital Photo requirements and if needed use the FAQ for the DS-160. and if you would like step by step you can find a very good tutorial hereImportant Notice: Take care to answer all questions on the DS-160 accurately and completely; otherwise, you may have to correct your application and reschedule your visa interview appointment.  This will delay your visa!

EACH applicant (K-1 and K-2) is required to have a completed DS-160 form for their interview.

Before you begin completing the DS-160 form you will need a digital 2X2 passport photo for each visa application (K-1/K-2) to upload into the form before completing.  After completing the form it must be digitally signed/submitted, then a 2 page confirmation must be printed out to bring to the interview. Be sure to make an extra copy and store in a safe place. If your printer settings allow you to print and save as a PDF that is ideal. This will allow you to print your DS-160 at will.

NOTE:  Others may assist you with your DS-160 visa application but, under U.S. law (22 C.F.R. 41.103) you must electronically sign and submit your own application unless you qualify for an exemption. Even if someone else helped you complete the application, you (the applicant) must click the “Sign Application” button, or your application may not be accepted.

Everything can be saved with security question/answer and application #.  You can also email copies to yourself and your fiancé(e).

Here is an example of the Confirmation Page of the DS-160.

Attention:   You can save your application and/or return to a partially completed application. When you begin a new DS-160, you will be issued a unique application identification (ID) number and after selecting and answering a security question. Be sure to write the ID and the answer to the security question and store in a safe place. Once you have your application ID number and have selected and answered a security question, you may exit the DS-160 application and return to it later. You must have your application ID to return to your application (and security question if needed). To save your DS-160 to the Consular Electronic Application Center website, click the “Next” button at the bottom of each page you complete. You have 30 days to return to a partially completed application.

Important Notice to Fiance(e)'s Derivative (K-2) Applicants

A fiancé(e)'s derivative (K-2) applicant(s), must apply and be issued a visa (if qualified) within one year (1) from the date the fiancé(e) (K-1) visa was issued.  Because of the one-year window for visa issuance, we strongly encourage K-2 applicants to apply for a visa as soon as possible, potentially as early as four months after K-1 issuance. This only applies to K-2(s) that are to follow. Otherwise, continue to add them to the fiancé(e) K-1's DS-160.

Reprinting the DS-160 Confirmation Page
