Form I-485 to Adjust to Permanent Resident Status
A person who is currently living in the U.S. and is a beneficiary of an approved immigrant petition by a U.S. citizen or permanent resident is required to file Form I-485 to adjust status to that of a permanent resident. This application has to be filed with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to get a green card.
Applicants being sponsored by U.S. citizen spouse and living in the U.S., who are K-1/K-2 visa holders and the K-1 has completed his/her marriage requirement, are now ready to file Form I-485, Application to Adjust Status to Permanent Resident. Along with the filing of the form I-485, the applicant is required to file Forms I-864 Affidavit of Support, I-131 Application for Travel Document, (optional), I-765 Application for Employment Authorization (optional), G-1145 E-Notification Application/Petition Acceptance (optional).
