Overview of What's Next

Welcome to the USA. We hope you have adjusted to the time and caught up on your sleep. Now it's time to go exploring and learn some lessons of what is needed to survive in the USA.

First and foremost you're going to need a Social Security Number (SSN). You need a Social Security number to get a job, open a bank account, collect Social Security benefits and get some other government services. But, you don't often need to show your Social Security card. Do not carry your card with you unless needed. Keep it in a safe place with your other important papers at home.

Your new Social Security (SS) card contains a nine-digit number and your personal Social Security number (SSN) remains your first and continuous link with Social Security. It helps SS to accurately record your covered wages or self-employment earnings. They also use it to monitor your record once you start getting benefits.

Let's get started. To apply for a SSN you will need to print off your I-94 which is usually available online about three to four business days after you arrive in the USA. So let's go to the next page and print off your I-94. Click here.
