Registering at myUSCIS - Case Status Online

A Single Account Simplifies Your Case Management

Think of your myUSCIS account as your home page to view your case status and history for most of the applications and petitions you have filed with USCIS. Creating an account is free and allows you to easily save your receipt numbers and view your entire case history every step of the way.

Here is a screenshot of what the website looks like. The first step is to create an account. Next, enter your receipt numbers that you receive for each of your forms (called cases) to check the status.

Another added benefit is that you can change your address, submit a case inquiry directly to USCIS on a pending (or stuck) case, get processing times and find USCIS office locations.

Once you select "sign-up" you'll be taken to this page below. Select "Applicant/Petitioner" then select "next".

On the next page, you will begin to enter your personal information into the blanks. This will be used to find your record and attach the dashboard so that all your cases that you submit, those from the past and those yet to come, will appear in one location. See the slide further down the page.

Ok. Moving along, you will now see this page for "security information". Here you will establish your user id, password and security questions if you ever need to retrieve your user id or password. Choose your answers carefully.

Once you have completed your "sign up" for a myUSCIS account then log yourself in. You are now at the page that looks like the example below. Next, go to "Enter a Receipt Number" and then select "add case". It will be added (once verified that it is your case number) to your "dashboard" under "receipt numbers".  The receipt number now is in blue as a link. Select the receipt number and you will be taken to the next page. (See Next Example)

By the way, you can turn on or off the email or text messages for updated information when it becomes available for any or all cases you have filed.  Use the buttons at the bottom of the page to make those changes.

On this next example, you will see the detail of your case. This example shows that the Form I-131, Application for USCIS Travel Document, Receipt Number XXXXXXXX was approved.  If this case was pending and needed some additional attention on your part, or it may give you information as to what the next steps are.

That's it. A new tool that will keep you off the phones, provide more information and hopefully bring you good news.
